Volunteer Position: Evening Manager

Reports to: Executive Director
Schedule: Minimum of 2 evenings per month, 3:30 PM – approximately 7:45 PM
Commitment: Two-year term

Each evening at Our Father’s Table is more than a meal — it is an opportunity to create a space where people feel welcomed, respected, and cared for. The Evening Manager plays a vital role in setting that tone, leading volunteers, and ensuring the environment reflects the heart and mission of OFT.

 

Role Summary

The Evening Manager is responsible for overseeing evening operations during meal service. This includes leading volunteers, managing the flow of the kitchen and dining area, handling any issues that arise, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and organized environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Arrive at 3:30 PM and remain until closing tasks are complete (approximately 7:45 PM)

  • Lead, direct, and support volunteers throughout the evening

  • Oversee both kitchen and dining room operations

  • Handle issues, concerns, or unexpected situations calmly and appropriately

  • Maintain a welcoming, non-judgmental atmosphere for all guests and volunteers

  • Able to perform basic food preparation when needed (heating food, simple cooking tasks)

  • Ensure all health department guidelines and food safety standards are followed

  • Communicate with the Executive Director before each shift for instructions (menu, notes, needs)

  • Provide a post-shift report to the Executive Director summarizing how the evening went

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding guests, volunteers, and internal matters

 

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and communication skills

  • Calm, level-headed, and able to handle stressful or chaotic situations

  • Comfortable giving direction and making decisions when needed

  • Basic food handling or kitchen familiarity

  • Willing to obtain SafeServe certification (if not already certified)

  • Alignment with the mission and values of Our Father’s Table

  • Willing to commit to a two-year term

 

Requirements

  • Completed volunteer application

  • Three references

  • Background check

  • Completion of SafeServe certification (if needed)

  • Training and shadowing period before working independently

 

Time Commitment

  • Minimum of 2 evenings per month

  • Approximately 4.5 hours per shift

  • Additional time during initial training period
