Volunteer Position: Grocery Shopper Volunteer

Schedule: 2–4 hours weekly; increased hours around holidays & events
Commitment: One-year term (renewable after review)

Mission Connection

The meals served at Our Father’s Table rely on consistent, thoughtful, and cost-effective grocery purchasing. This volunteer ensures that our kitchen always has what it needs, from basic staples to special event items, helping us steward donations wisely and care for our guests with dignity.

Role Summary

The Grocery Shopper Volunteer is responsible for purchasing weekly groceries, comparing prices, checking donated inventory, and maintaining close communication with the Executive Director. This role combines independence, organization, and stewardship.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Shop weekly for all needed groceries and kitchen supplies

  • Steward OFT funds carefully by comparing prices and purchasing the best deals

  • Stop by OFT once a week to check the pantry, fridge, and freezer for donations that affect the shopping list

  • Communicate with the Executive Director both before and after shopping

  • Ensure all shopping is completed early enough for Monday morning meal prep

  • Manage receipts and maintain clear records of spending to give to the bookkeeper

  • Place online orders when appropriate

  • Assist with increased shopping needs during holidays and special events

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle resources responsibly

Qualifications

  • Reliable vehicle required

  • Organized, dependable, and trustworthy

  • Comfortable working independently

  • Able to compare prices and manage lists efficiently

  • Alignment with Our Father’s Table mission

  • Willing to commit to one year of service

Requirements

  • Completed volunteer application

  • Three references

  • Background check

  • Training provided

Time Commitment

  • Weekly: 2–4 hours

  • Holidays/events: variable additional hours

  • Weekly visit to OFT to review inventory and donations

  • Pre- and post-shopping communication with the Executive Director
